We’ve got some exciting plans for our blog and will be bringing you a raft of new content over the coming weeks and months. We’ll be catching up with friends of Fired Earth and our team of talented designers, as well as keeping you up to date with new launches and offering deeper insight into some of our much-loved ranges.
We’re kicking off here with the popularSorento collection.A truly versatile range, these pretty and highly decorative tiles are designed to add depth and pattern. The tiles, which are made in Italy, are perfect if you’re looking to create a statement-making floor.
This classic, design-led collection stands the test of time. Styles come and go in the interiors world and few have had the staying power of the mid-century modern look. Initially, it had quite a niche following but it’s now a much-loved part of the mainstream and most definitely here to stay.

New elements have crept in and there’s now an overlap with Art Deco styles, offering a fresh take on the modernist trend. One of the most glamorous periods – rich in design history – this trend is all about opulence. Sumptuous colour, intricate patterns, hints of gold and bold monochrome looks are all key to this period. The Sorrento collection offers a nod to both modernist and Art Deco design.

As these black and white tiles show, the simplicity of a monochrome palette is hard to beat. It’s timeless and allows you to use pops of colour – a bright red vase, a velvet-orange sofa or a jewel-like paint shade – to add drama. You can also use natural textures in neutral shades to create a more pared-back look.
With nine designs – seven patterned and two plain – there’s a host of ways to use tiles from the Sorento collection, and in so many spaces. They’re practical as they’re made from porcelain, and particularly versatile too as they can be used both indoors and outside, allowing you to, for example, extend outwards, using them through a kitchen out to a terrace, giving a feeling of space.
A black and white checkerboard layout – usingSorrento BlackandSorrento White– is bold and striking and works well in both contemporary and traditional spaces of any size.

The geometric shapes of theCapotile, the chevrons of theCorrealetile, and the stripes of theTurrotile offer dynamic and striking looks. Interestingly, though, these tiles offer a much less busy look than you might imagine, instead offering a streamlined, dynamic and striking statement.
So, whatever your style and whatever the space you have to work with, there’s a monochrome look that will work for you.
